Little Gems

Posted in Paintings on July 23, 2010 by Amy Floyd Studio

I have always taken my watercolor paintings and cut them up to make other paintings out of them.  I used to also do this with oil pastel drawings.  My goal is to re-invent the composition as many times as I can.  Well, apparently a lot of people make these artist trading cards.  They are tiny paintings that are usually traded between people who love art.  I decided to cut up my current watercolor and give it a shot. Unfortunately I made them a half inch to small.  So, for now we will call these little gems. I will probably use them for cards.

If in doubt, add a butterfly

Here are a few paintings I just finished using this great butterfly book I found at the local library.  I figured out, while making these, that I am famous for painting myself in a corner.  Then my next step is to get very frustrated and not finish the painting. I decided to finish these even if I didn’t like them just so I could get out of the corner.  I was going for a simple composition when I realized that a minimalist touch is just not my style.
